Create a coupon and a free shipping threshold

Lesson 15 of 20
Two simple tools cover most of what a new store needs from promotions: a coupon and a free shipping threshold. This lesson sets up both and explains the rules that keep them from costing more than they earn.
Coupon types
Kambloo's coupon engine supports three kinds of discount:
- Percentage off the cart or off selected items.
- Fixed amount off.
- Free shipping.
Each coupon has a code the customer types at checkout. Choose codes that are easy to read aloud and to type on a phone: WELCOME10 rather than W3LC0ME-10.
Limits that protect you
A coupon without limits is a permanent price cut. Set these on every coupon:
- Usage limit. How many times the code can be used in total.
- Per-customer limit. Usually one. Kambloo matches by customer account or email.
- Minimum cart total. Below this, the code is refused. Set it so the discounted order still covers shipping and margin.
- Scope. Which products or categories the discount applies to. Exclude items you cannot discount.
- Start and end dates. An end date also lets you show a real countdown in the store, because the coupon actually expires.
Kambloo checks these at checkout in that order. Usage counts are locked when the order is created, so a code cannot be used more times than you allowed, even by two people at the same moment.
Your first coupon
A welcome coupon for a first order is the usual place to start. Create a percentage coupon, set the per-customer limit to one, set a minimum cart total, exclude any items you cannot discount, and give it an end date a few weeks out. Put the code in your announcement bar or your newsletter section.
Keep the discount modest. A coupon is an invitation, not the reason your product is worth buying.
One coupon per cart
Kambloo allows one coupon in a cart at a time. Automatic campaigns, such as a free shipping threshold, can still apply alongside a coupon unless the coupon is marked as not stackable. If two discounts target the same line, Kambloo applies the larger one, in the customer's favour. The same calculator runs in the cart and at checkout, so totals never differ between the two.
Free shipping threshold
A free shipping threshold is the simplest way to raise your average order value. Set it a little above what customers currently spend, and many will add one more item to reach it.
Set it up as a free shipping campaign with a minimum cart total. The cart then shows a progress bar: "Add 150 TL more for free shipping." The bar reads the threshold from the campaign itself, so there is no second setting to keep in sync. When the customer crosses the line, the bar changes to confirm free shipping.
Pick the number from your data. After a few weeks of orders, look at your average order value in your reports and set the threshold a little above it. Recheck it every few months.
Cart suggestions
While you are in the cart settings, note the suggestion strip under the cart. It shows the related products you set on each product in Module 2. If you have not set them, it stays empty. Two to four good complements per product are enough.
Measuring
The Marketing → Performance dashboard shows usage per coupon, the discount you gave, the revenue those orders brought, and the average cart with and without a coupon. If coupon orders are smaller than non-coupon orders, your minimum cart total is too low.
Common mistakes
- Coupons with no end date and no usage limit that circulate on coupon sites for a year.
- A free shipping threshold below the average order, which gives away shipping on orders you were already getting.
- Codes that are hard to type on a phone.
- Discounting items with no margin because scope was left at "all products".
- Creating a new coupon for every request instead of one code with per-customer limits.
Apply this in your store: create one welcome coupon with limits and an end date, set a free shipping threshold, and check both in your own cart.
Apply this in your store
Your task
- Create a welcome coupon with a per-customer limit and an end date.
- Set a free shipping threshold a little above your current average order value.
- Check that the cart shows the progress bar toward free shipping.
You need a store to do this. Open a free test store: it is ready in under a minute and asks for no card.
