Collect consent and market honestly

Lesson 16 of 20 8 min

Marketing to people who did not ask for it is illegal in Turkey and, separately, it does not work. Kambloo enforces the permission rules in code, so you cannot break them by accident. This lesson explains what those rules are, how they show up in your store, and the honesty rules that go with them.

Two kinds of message

Every message your store sends is one of two types:

  • Transactional. Order confirmation, shipping update, password reset, a plain reminder about the shopper's own cart. These are about a service the customer asked for. No marketing consent is needed.
  • Marketing. Anything with an offer, a coupon, a newsletter or a product recommendation. These need explicit consent for that channel, and in Turkey that consent must be recorded in İYS, the national message management system.

Kambloo checks the message type and the recipient's consent at the start of every send. A marketing message to someone without consent never leaves the system.

Consent boxes appear at checkout, in the newsletter section and in the customer account. Kambloo follows these rules and you should not try to change them:

  • Boxes are never pre-ticked.
  • Email and SMS consent are separate boxes. WhatsApp falls under the SMS permission.
  • Each consent is stored with the time, the source and the IP address, because you may have to prove it in an audit.
  • Every change is sent to İYS, and rejections made on the İYS side are pulled back nightly, so the two stay in sync.

Every marketing email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and every marketing SMS carries the opt-out instruction. Unsubscribing revokes the consent immediately and syncs to İYS.

What this means for your campaigns

  • Cart recovery step 1 goes to everyone with a reachable address, because it is a service message. Coupon steps go only to people with consent.
  • The newsletter section on your homepage needs a KVKK consent text. Write it plainly: what you will send, how often, and that they can stop at any time.
  • If you import a customer list, only contacts with a documented consent may receive marketing. Kambloo records imported consents with "import" as the source, and you are responsible for that documentation.

Honesty rules Kambloo enforces

Some marketing tactics are common elsewhere and unavailable on Kambloo by design. They damage trust, and several are unfair commercial practices under Turkish consumer law.

  • No fake countdowns. A timer is shown only for a coupon or offer with a real end time. When the time runs out, the coupon really stops working. Timers never reset.
  • No fake stock badges. "Only 3 left" appears only when stock is actually 3. The badge reads live stock and cannot be typed in.
  • No fake original prices. The compare-at price should be a price the product actually sold at.
  • No fake social proof. Testimonials are meant for real reviews. The Reviews module shows only reviews you have approved, and rating stars in search results appear only when real approved reviews exist.

None of this stops you from running strong promotions. It means every promise on your store is true, which is also what makes repeat customers.

Frequency

Kambloo limits stores to one marketing email per contact per day. Even inside that limit, send less than you think. A monthly newsletter that people open is worth more than a weekly one they delete.

Measuring what worked

The Marketing → Performance dashboard breaks down recovered revenue, coupon usage and campaign results. In the integration settings you can connect analytics and ad platforms such as Google Analytics, Google Ads and Meta, and Kambloo sends purchase and add-to-cart events server-side as well as in the browser, so ad blockers do not hide your results.

Judge campaigns by orders and revenue, not by opens. A campaign that "performed well" but brought no orders did not perform well.

Common mistakes

  • Buying or borrowing an email list. It is illegal to message it, and Kambloo will refuse to send.
  • One consent box for "email and SMS". They must be separate.
  • Writing "limited time" in an announcement bar with no actual end date.
  • Sending a newsletter every week because it is easy.
  • Counting opens and clicks instead of orders.

Apply this in your store: open your checkout as a customer and confirm the consent boxes are unchecked and separate, then check your İYS connection in your admin.

Your task

  1. Check that your checkout and newsletter consent boxes are unchecked by default and separated by channel.
  2. Confirm your İYS connection is active so consents sync.
  3. Review your announcement bar and any countdown for claims that are not true today.
