Write titles and meta descriptions that earn clicks

Lesson 18 of 20 8 min

The title and description are what a searcher sees before they see your store. Kambloo writes them for you from a template, and for most products that is fine. For the pages that bring the most traffic, a written title earns more clicks. This lesson shows where the templates live and how to write the custom ones.

Templates first

In the SEO section of your admin you will find title and description templates per content type and per language. A product title template might read:

{product name} — {category} | {store name}

Variables include product name, category, brand, price and store name. Every product without a custom title uses the template. This means every page has a title from day one, and it means you only write custom ones where it pays.

Check the templates once. Make sure the store name is short and that the pattern reads naturally in each language you sell in.

The SEO tab

Every product, category and page form has an SEO tab with:

  • Title and meta description, translatable per language.
  • Canonical URL override, rarely needed.
  • Robots directive per page, for example to keep a thank-you page out of the index.
  • Social image for sharing on WhatsApp, X and other platforms.

As you type, a live preview shows how the result will look in search results on desktop and mobile, and a counter warns when the title or description will be cut off. The cutoff is measured in pixels, not characters, because wide letters take more room. The warning thresholds are around 580 pixels for the title and 990 pixels for the description.

Writing a title

  • Lead with what the page is about, in the words a searcher uses: "Leather ankle boots for men".
  • Add one distinguishing fact if it fits: "handmade in İzmir".
  • End with your store name, or let the template add it.
  • Do not repeat the same word to "strengthen" it. A title is not a keyword list.

Writing a description

The description is a sentence or two that says what the searcher will find and why to click. It does not affect ranking directly, but it changes how many people click.

  • Say what the page offers: range, sizes, materials, delivery.
  • Include one concrete reason: free shipping above an amount, two-day delivery, a 14-day return right.
  • Write it as a sentence, not a list of phrases.
  • Keep it inside the preview's limit so it is not truncated.

Which pages to write by hand

You will not write custom titles for every product, and you should not try. Prioritise:

  1. The homepage.
  2. Your top five categories.
  3. Your top twenty products by traffic or revenue.
  4. Static pages customers search for: shipping, returns, about.

Everything else keeps the template. Revisit the list every few months with your traffic reports.

Social share image

The social image appears when someone shares a link on WhatsApp, Instagram or X. Set one for the homepage and your top categories: a clean product photo with your logo works. For products, the main product image is the natural choice.

Duplicate and missing content

The nightly health report lists pages with missing or duplicate titles and descriptions, missing main headings, missing image alt text, and thin product descriptions. Each finding has a fix action. Generating missing descriptions from the template is safe to run any time. Duplicate titles usually mean two products or categories with the same name; give them distinguishing names rather than fighting the template.

Languages

If you sell in more than one language, the SEO fields are per language in the same tab. Do not translate a title word by word; write it the way a searcher in that language would phrase it. Untranslated fields fall back to the template in that language.

Common mistakes

  • Stuffing the title with repeated keywords. It reads badly and does not help.
  • Descriptions that describe the store instead of the page.
  • Leaving the store name long, so it eats half of every title.
  • Writing custom titles for all 400 products in one weekend instead of the twenty that matter.
  • The same title on every category because the template variables were left out.

Apply this in your store: check the templates, then write a custom title and description for your homepage and your top category, watching the preview as you type.

Apply this in your store
