Marketplace (Pazaryeri)
Definition
A marketplace (pazaryeri) is a third-party platform such as Trendyol, Hepsiburada, Amazon, or Etsy where many sellers list products and the platform handles traffic and checkout in exchange for a commission. Selling there gives instant reach but little control over brand, customer data, or margins. Most Turkish stores sell on marketplaces and their own site at the same time.
Why it matters for your store
Marketplaces are where the customers already are. For a new store, a Trendyol listing can produce orders on the first day. The price is the commission, which for many categories consumes most of the margin, and the dependence: the marketplace owns the customer, sets the rules, and can change both.
Most stores end up with a mix. Marketplaces for reach and cash flow, an own store for margin and repeat customers. The difficulty is operational: the same products, stock, and orders in several places, each with its own category tree and required attributes. Without integration, that means double entry and, sooner or later, overselling.
