Product Variant

Definition

A product variant is one specific combination of a product's options, such as size 42 in black, with its own SKU, price, stock level, barcode, and image. The product groups the variants for display; the variant is what actually sells and ships. Variants keep the catalog tidy while letting inventory stay exact.

Why it matters for your store

Customers shop by product and buy by variant. They land on "leather boot," then choose black and 42. If the store tracked stock at the product level, it could sell a size it does not have. If it treated every size as a separate product, the catalog would be twelve times larger and every page would compete with its siblings in search.

Variants solve both. One page, one description, one URL, and underneath it a grid of sellable items with their own stock, price, and barcode. Marketplaces and shopping feeds think the same way: a parent item and its child items.

How Kambloo handles it

Kambloo products carry options such as color, size, or material, and every combination is a variant with its own SKU, price, stock, barcode, image, and discount. Stock reservations at checkout are made per variant, and low-stock alerts fire per variant.

The product page stays one URL. Selecting a variant updates the page without changing the canonical, so search engines see a single product. In Google Merchant and other feeds, each variant is an item and the product is its group. When you list on a marketplace, variant fields are mapped to the marketplace's required attributes, and missing required values are flagged before the listing is sent.

CSV and Excel import handle variants in bulk, and the public API exposes products and variants separately so external systems can update stock at the level it is counted.

Questions about Product Variant

Should I create separate products or variants for colors?

Variants, when the items share a name, description, and page. Separate products, when customers search for them separately or the descriptions differ. One product page with color variants usually ranks and converts better than six near-identical pages.

Can each variant have its own price and image?

Yes. On Kambloo every variant carries its own price, stock, SKU, barcode, image, and discount, so a large size or a premium color can cost more.
