Barcode / GTIN
Definition
A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the number encoded in a product's retail barcode, such as the 13-digit EAN used in Turkey and Europe or the 12-digit UPC used in North America. It identifies one product globally, across every seller. Marketplaces, Google Shopping, and price comparison sites use the GTIN to match listings to the same product.
Why it matters for your store
Outside your own site, your product competes with every other listing of the same item. The GTIN is how those channels know it is the same item. With it, your offer appears alongside the others on the product's comparison page; without it, your listing may be matched wrongly or not shown at all.
The GTIN is also part of the structured data that qualifies a page for product rich results, and it is the primary key that Turkish price comparison sites use for matching. Missing GTINs are one of the most common reasons a product feed is rejected or under-performs.
Do not confuse it with your SKU. The SKU is yours; the GTIN belongs to the product.
How Kambloo handles it
Each variant has a barcode field for its GTIN. That single field feeds every output that needs it: the product's structured data, the Google Merchant feed, the Meta catalog feed, marketplace listings on Trendyol, Hepsiburada, and the others, and the Akakçe and Çimri comparison feeds, where matching is done by GTIN first.
The SEO health report lists products with missing GTINs or brands, because both lower the chance of a rich result and of correct matching. Feed validation warns about missing GTINs before the feed is published.
Shipping labels from carriers carry their own barcodes and are unrelated to the GTIN.
Questions about Barcode / GTIN
Do I need a GTIN for every product?
For branded products that already have a barcode, use it. For products you make yourself, you can register your own GTINs through GS1 or list without one, though some channels will limit visibility for items without a GTIN.
Where does the GTIN go on Kambloo?
In the barcode field of each variant. From there it flows to structured data, the Google Merchant feed, marketplace listings, and price comparison feeds automatically.
