SEO and GEO

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

Definition

GEO is the practice of making a website's content easy for AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews to read, trust, and cite. Where SEO aims for a ranking, GEO aims to be quoted as the source in a generated answer. It rewards self-contained, quotable paragraphs, complete product data in real tables, and machine-readable files such as llms.txt.

Why it matters for your store

A growing share of product research now happens inside an AI answer rather than on a results page. When someone asks which leather boot is water-resistant under 3000 TL, the engine reads a handful of sources and quotes the ones it can parse. A store whose specs live in an image, or whose page is empty without JavaScript, is not among them.

GEO rests on four things. Access: the crawler must be allowed in. Machine readability: headings, tables, and prices must be marked up as what they are. Completeness: the page must hold enough facts to answer a question. Quotability: the answer must exist as a block that can be lifted out whole, such as a first sentence that stands on its own.

How Kambloo handles it

Kambloo treats GEO as part of the core, not an add-on. AI crawlers are allowed by default on live stores, with a per-store switch. The theme contract requires semantic HTML: one h1 per page, proper landmarks, prices in machine-readable markup, and specifications in real tables. Content hidden behind interactions is still present in the HTML, because AI crawlers do not run JavaScript.

Product attributes come from category templates and produce three outputs from one source: a visible spec table, structured data properties, and feed fields. FAQ blocks on products and pages are published both as visible HTML and as FAQPage structured data, with an editor note that the first sentence should answer the question alone.

Every live store gets an llms.txt file with its categories, top products, and policies, plus a JSON product feed. Kambloo.com itself follows the same rules, including this glossary.

Questions about GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO optimizes for a list of links; GEO optimizes for being the source an AI quotes in its answer. Both need crawlable, structured pages, but GEO puts more weight on complete data, clear tables, and paragraphs that answer a question on their own.

Should I let AI crawlers access my store?

If you want your products to appear in AI answers, yes. Kambloo allows GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended by default on live stores, with a per-store switch to block them.
