Installment (Taksit)

Definition

An installment (taksit) is a card payment split into several monthly charges by the card issuer, while the merchant receives the full amount from the payment provider up front. In Turkey the available installment counts depend on the card program family, such as Bonus, World, or Maximum, and on legal limits set per product category. The merchant chooses which counts to offer and whether to pass the extra cost on to the customer.

Why it matters for your store

Turkish shoppers expect installments on anything above a small basket. For furniture, electronics, and fashion, the installment table is often the deciding factor at checkout. A store without installments loses the high-ticket sale to a store that has them.

Installments also have a cost. Providers charge a higher commission for six installments than for a single payment. You need to decide, per installment count, whether that cost stays with you or goes to the customer as a markup. Both choices are legitimate; hiding the choice is not.

There is a legal layer too. Turkey caps the number of installments for categories such as electronics, phones, and jewellery. A checkout must apply the strictest cap for whatever is in the cart.

How Kambloo handles it

At checkout, as soon as the customer has typed the first six digits of the card, Kambloo asks the payment provider for the live installment table for that card and amount. The result is cached for one hour so repeat lookups are instant.

In the admin payment settings you control three things: which installment counts are offered (for example only 1, 3, and 6), a minimum order amount below which no installments appear, and whether the markup is passed on. With markup off, every installment count shows the same price. With markup on, each count shows its own total, using the provider's rate or a rate you enter.

The selected installment count is stored on the payment record, and any markup appears as a separate line in the order total, so accounting stays clean.

If you connect your own bank virtual POS, you enter your bank's rates per card family and installment count. The legal category limits are maintained by the platform and applied automatically.

Questions about Installment (Taksit)

Who pays for installments, the merchant or the customer?

The payment provider or bank charges the merchant a higher commission for each installment count. The merchant can absorb it and show one price, or add a markup per installment so the customer pays the difference.

Why does the installment list change with the card?

Installments are tied to the card program family, not the bank alone. The store reads the first six digits of the card (the BIN) to find the family and shows only the counts that card supports.
