Cash on Delivery (COD)
Definition
Cash on delivery (COD, kapıda ödeme) lets a customer pay the courier in cash or by card when the parcel arrives, instead of paying online at checkout. The carrier collects the money and later transfers it to the merchant, usually for an extra fee. It is common in Turkey because it removes the need to trust an unfamiliar store with card details.
Why it matters for your store
COD brings in customers you would otherwise lose: people without a card, people who do not trust a new store yet, and people who want to see the product before they pay. For a young store it can be a meaningful share of orders.
It also brings a specific risk. A card order is paid before it ships. A COD order ships first and may come back unpaid, and the return shipping is your cost. Carriers charge a collection fee on top. So COD needs rules: who can use it, up to what amount, in which regions, and with what surcharge.
How Kambloo handles it
COD is a payment method like any other at checkout, connected to the carrier integrations. When the shipment is created, the amount to collect is sent to the carrier with the label. Stock is deducted at order time rather than reserved, because there is no payment step to wait for. When the carrier reports delivery, the order moves to collection confirmation and then to paid. If the parcel is refused, the order is cancelled, the stock returns, and the customer's refusal count goes up.
You set the rules per store. COD can be closed for customers who refused deliveries before (two by default), hidden above a cart total you choose, limited to selected shipping zones, and switched off automatically where the carrier does not support it. Orders that the risk scorer marks as high do not get the COD option. You can add a COD service fee, shown as its own line in the order total.
Yurtiçi, Aras, MNG, Sürat, PTT, and HepsiJet support COD through their Kambloo integrations.
Questions about Cash on Delivery (COD)
What happens if the customer refuses a cash on delivery parcel?
The carrier returns it to you and usually charges for both directions. The order is cancelled and the stock goes back on sale. Stores limit this risk by blocking repeat refusers, capping COD order values, and adding a small COD fee.
When is a COD order marked as paid?
After the carrier reports the delivery and the collection is confirmed against the carrier's payment report. Until then the order is delivered but the payment is pending.
