ETBİS (Electronic Commerce Information System)
Definition
ETBİS (Elektronik Ticaret Bilgi Sistemi) is the Turkish Ministry of Trade's registry of businesses that sell online. Any company or sole trader operating an e-commerce site in Turkey must register the site there when it starts selling, and the registration is publicly searchable. It is also a prerequisite for the Ministry's trust stamp (Güven Damgası).
Why it matters for your store
Registration is a legal duty, not an option, and the Ministry can fine businesses that sell without it. The register is public, so customers and partners can check that a store is a registered seller. That check is becoming part of how Turkish consumers judge an unfamiliar site, alongside the trust stamp, which requires ETBİS registration first.
The registration ties the site's domain to the legal entity, so it should be done for the domain you actually sell on, and updated if the domain changes. It is a task for the moment a store goes live, together with the distance sales contract, the privacy notice, and the invoice setup.
